Quarry Hill
The aim of this scheme is to replace an early Victorian building that has been added to, revised and adjusted in several unsympathetic ways into eight residential units comprising 4x3-bed houses, 2x2-bed houses, 1x2-bed flat and 1x1-bed flat.
The proposal comprises demolishing the existing poor quality buildings, constructing an enclosed basement parking area accessed at road level, with the units constructed on this deck utilising the sloping nature of the site to minimise the increase in overall height of the proposal.
As well as the provision of off street parking, it accommodates secure cycle parking, bin and recycling storage facilities at ground floor level.
The residential units will be constructed from timber frame, with oak boarding cladding and natural stone banding. These will sit on top of the deck formed by the parking area below. Access to this parking area will be from the lowest point of the site.
It is proposed to use natural materials as far as possible, with the exception being the photo voltaic roof tiles for the upper portion of the mansard roof. There will also be a rainwater harvesting system to recycle the runoff water from the site. One of the prime design concepts has been one of sustainability and environmental awareness. The houses will all be timber frame, and incorporate energy saving features such as low emissivity glass, pv tiles, grey water recycling, rainwater harvesting and the maximisation of natural light.
